The fight against global pollution takes a dive

A volunteer team of 300,000 will be disappearing beneath the surface of the world’s oceans next month in the biggest ever clean up of the sea bed.

The Project Aware scheme has recruited an army of scuba divers who will get to work on more than a million square miles of ocean floor.

The project is supported by hundreds of diving centres including one of the world’s most prestigious, Taba Heights. Joining the efforts on 3 October 2009, the resort will also host a clean up day to remove waste and debris from its beachfront and seabed.
Over 6 million tons of debris enters the ocean each year, causing irrevocable harm to aquatic wildlife and environments.

The Project Aware Foundation is dedicated to addressing the negative impact of environmental pollution. Part of the clean-up will include collection of debris for a global data collection index, vital to the education, legislation and reform of environmental pollution.
