Night of Culture set to ‘Trash’ Aalborg
Not wanting to waste the opportunity to showcase the city’s diverse creativity, Denmark’s 4th largest city Aalborg has scrapped more traditional themes for this year’s ‘Night Of Culture’ on Friday 9 October by hosting an inspirational evening of events thought provokingly based around ‘Trash’.Taking place throughout Denmark’s cities, the annual ‘Night of Culture’ sees cultural institutions; associations and various venues open their doors to the public with artists and entertainers littering the streets with eye-catching performances. By cleverly combining the theme of ‘trash’ with the Danes penchant for recycling, Aalborg extremely lively programme is designed to have spectators imaginatively thinking about their garbage.
With around 2,000 participants taking to Aalborg’s streets and covering a wide range of disciplines - theatre, dance, music and song, art, film, video and many other interpretations, ‘trash’ will literally be strewn across the city for the night.
Events already scheduled include ‘Trash’ – an event drawing attention to the significance of trash in the world of music and art utilising old bottles and bins to discover new ways of delving into those genre; ‘Pixel Junk’ - an investigation of recycling opportunities whereby 18 disposed televisions have been transformed into an advanced performance instrument for VJ's (video jockeys) to visually interpret music; and, ‘Information Overload’ - an audio-visual performance of sensual bombardment that questions the constant flood of information that we are exposed to through our high-tech society.
