Sri Lankans’ flock to the hill station as April is the hottest month. There are horse races, where your hat and dress is more important than which thorough bred one. There are golf tournaments, motorcycling and car racing, and many festivities. Nuwara Eliya’s architecture and culture is influenced by years of British occupation.

May 1st
Vesak Full Moon Poya Day - Buddhist Festival of Light.
Lights are put up all over the country and lanterns are made in celebration of the life of the Lord Buddha.

August 18th - 28th
Kandy Perehera (also known as the Esela Perehera).
Annual procession exposing the Tooth Relic of the Lord Buddha.
These are approximate dates, which are yet to be confirmed.

September 12th - 19th
World Spice Festival.
The World Spice Festival is back. Last year’s was hugely successful.

November
England Tour of Sri Lanka.
