Slovenia Slovenia Tourist Board, in conjunction with the Ministry of the Economy, has launched a new on-line Central Reservation System, to enable visitors to book accommodation and tourism services at slovenia.info, the tourist board’s website.

The on-line booking facility features hotels, apartments, guest house and tourist farms, with a sophisticated search facility selecting accommodation choices by date, number of nights, type of accommodation, and by geographic region.

This is the first time that a nationwide, centralised accommodation booking services have been offered in Slovenia and represents a considerable investment for the country, who joined the Euro mechanism in January 2007, following membership of the EU in April 2004.

British visitors represent around 7% of Slovenia’s 2,482,189 incoming foreign tourists (Jan – Dec 2006). The numbers of Britons travelling to has increased dramatically during the past five years, from under 20,000 visitors in 2002, to around 91,000 in 2006, taking 319,235 overnight stays.

Slovenia has a year round tourism offer, the winter ski resorts, summer walking, biking, hiking, holiday farms, coastal resorts and sight-seeing in historic towns and cities. The greatest number of visitors spend time in Slovenia’s `lakes and mountains’ region, with picturesque Lake Bled receiving almost one third of British visitors, the capital Ljubljana, welcomes more British overnight guests than any other nationality and Slovenia’s Adriatic Coast is popular, as are two-centre coast / lakes holidays.

With regular scheduled Adria Airways flights from Manchester, Birmingham, Gatwick and Dublin to Ljubljana, EasyJet flights from Stansted to Ljubljana and Wizz Air flights from Luton to Ljubljana, the country has become far more accessible in recent years.
Slovenia Tourist Board Director Mr. Dimitrij Piciga said “There is a strong affinity between the British and Slovenia and we continue to be delighted with the increasing numbers of British visitors.

The new on-line booking facility and call centre will greatly help those who want to source and book accommodation direct and we are expecting a sharp rise in the number of British visitors to Slovenia during 2007”.
