The Quest of a lifetime

3rd April 2007 Print
Quest As we approach summer, hundreds of A Level students are nervously anticipating exam season and thinking about how they’re going to spend their gap years. Quest pioneered combined expeditions back in 1996 and Quest Overseas continues to organise life-changing trips for gappers keen to make a difference while having the trip of a lifetime.

Quest offer a range of exciting and worthwhile gap years. Where else would you get the opportunity to walk a puma in Bolivia, look after and sponsor an orphan in Malawi, build sand dams alongside local villagers in Kenya, build schools in Tanzania, work with scientists to conserve forest in the stunning lake district area of Chile, entertain kids with sports and activities in Peru and conserve the Amazon rainforest.

Every single one of these projects will give you a fascinating insight into the African and South American culture and by choosing Quest you can be certain that when you leave, the project will continue to benefit the local community and support will be maintained in the long-term.

Michael Amphlet, founder of Quest explains how volunteers are contributing to the projects on a long term basis:

“Our volunteers contribute directly to the projects they work on, not only with their time and energy but also with their money – on average £750 per person. This amount covers the short and medium term costs of running the projects as well as longer term objectives, from sponsoring a child’s education to protecting six acres of rainforest.

“Quest volunteers see where their money is being spent and appreciate the difference it makes to communities in Africa and South America. The investment that Quest volunteers make to the projects, financially, physically and emotionally, ensures that we can continue the valuable work we do, and our volunteers go home with the knowledge that they have made a significant difference.”
