Travellers to US urged to order dollars now

18th April 2007 Print
Yesterday the pound hit the $2 mark for the first time in almost 15 years. Leading foreign exchange specialist Travelex has already noted a significant increase in demand for the Dollar.

Anthony Wagerman, Managing Director of Travelex’s retail business commented:

“This is a significant milestone in the relationship between the US Dollar and the pound. This is great news for British travellers and we have already experienced a significant increase in demand for US Dollars particularly online. Whilst the Euro remains the number one selling currency in the UK market, there’s a good chance that the dollar may temporarily knock it off the top spot as transatlantic travellers from the UK cash in.”

Sterling last went through $2 on September 8, 1992, in the run-up to the pound's ERM exit on "Black Wednesday" (September 16), but then turned tail quickly.

Travelex advises British tourists planning to take a trip to the States to order their currency online now at Travelex.co.uk, which not only guarantees the best price on foreign exchange in the UK but also allows the customer to secure the current rate for up to 60 days before travelling.
