The Glasgow Diary looks forward to a long hot summer

Glasgow River Festival - 14 & 15 July

Returning for a triumphant second year, the highly praised Indian Summer showcases indie, electronic and alternative acts amid a relaxed boutique style atmosphere. Headliners include psychedelic show-stoppers The Flaming Lips and Grammy award winning alt-country outfit Wilco. Piping Live! - 6 – 12 August
Celebrating its fourth year, Piping Live! is one of the most innovative and exciting celebrations of Scottish culture. Venues across the city will host a series of inspiring musical events featuring an outstanding line-up of international artists and the best of Scotland’s piping talent. World Pipe Band Championships 2007 - 11 August
Since 1948, the World Pipe Band Championships has been a must for those who love Scottish music culture and dance. Over 200 of the world’s best pipe bands will take part in this most prestigious competition – named the 2006 Scottish Traditional Music Event of the Year. As well as the finest in pipes and drums, spectators will be able to enjoy Highland Dancing and Drum Major competitions and the European Highland Games Heavy Events Championship, complete with tossing the caber! Merchant City Festival - 20 – 23 September
Showcasing contemporary and traditional Scottish arts and culture, the Merchant City Festival offers visitors the chance to discover opera singers performing alongside cutting edge theatre companies, eclectic musicians and iconoclastic comedians in the refined surroundings of Glasgow’s cultural quarter. Kylie - The Exhibition - 21 September – 13 January 2008
‘Kylie – The Exhibition’ will explore the Australian singer’s changing image as a popular icon and international performer. Created by the Arts Centre in Melbourne, the exhibition will feature photographs, videos and recordings spanning Kylie’s career and offers visitors the chance to get up close to 45 of her outfits including her overalls from ‘Neighbours’ and the stunning costumes used in her recent ‘Showgirl’ tour.
