In a week when all eyes will be on Scotland for the Open at Carnoustie, golf legend Sam Torrance is sharing his top 10 things to do and see in Scotland, as part of a new national tourism campaign. The VisitScotland golf ambassador names the Dunvegan Hotel in St Andrews as the perfect 19th hole and also lists a day at Ayr races, eating fish and chips in Largs, visiting the Wallace monumentand having a dram at Highland Park distillery in Orkney as among his Scottish ‘top ten’.
He said: “There is such a huge variety of things to see and do in Scotland – from stunning scenery to great events, and of course the best golf in the world. I’m sure this new campaign will offer lots of inspiration for people, whether they have been to Scotland many times or are thinking of visiting for the first time.”
National tourism organisation VisitScotland has developed a website to show visitors that there is always more to do and see in Scotland and to encourage them to plan a trip to experience it for themselves.
Tourists are being encouraged to design their perfect trip by logging onto Visitscotland.com/top10 and choosing their top ten things to do and see in Scotland.
VisitScotland’s UK and Ireland Marketing Manager, Suzanne Casey said: “We want to show visitors that there’s always more to do and see in Scotland and our new Top 10 website does just that – it will even give them one or two surprises about the kind of things they can experience on holiday here.
“Where else in the world can you visit a world famous castle one day, go white water rafting the next, see dolphins up close or take in one of our internationally renowned festivals to round off your trip? The Top 10 site which is a great joint initiative with Highland Spring bottled water shows thousands of potential visitors that Scotland’s is a must visit, must return destination.”
One lucky visitor to the site will win their Top 10 holiday to Scotland if they enter the joint competition with Highland Spring.
This campaign will also be promoted on over 35 million bottles of Highland Spring’s natural bottled water which is sourced from a protected organic source under the Ochil Hills in Perthshire.
