Super Camps continues Onelife project in South Africa

A partnership first established in 2005 when two members of the Super Camps management team visited Cape Town to meet with local charities working to address the issues facing young people in South Africa, the camps were created and first launched in 2006.
Mark Vingoe, Super Camps’ external operations manager who will be re-visiting the camps in South Africa later in the year commented: “Super Camps initiated the project with help from Viva Network and last year was the fist Onelifer camp in South Africa - which proved to be a great success. The life skills and hope they instil in these children is invaluable, it is great to give children the opportunity to live and play in a safe environment”
Providing monetary and professional support, including training for the South African team of staff and volunteers, Super Camps UK are committed to ensuring the camps achieve their aim of teaching life skills and instilling a strong sense of self worth in each child following their time at One Life camps. Offering an escape from day to day poverty, the camps allow youngsters to recognise their own potential as well as useful and potentially life saving skills.
This year Super Camps have made a commitment to raise a significant amount of money for their South African initiative. The money aims to establish day camps for 2,000 children, addressing the issue of young children being left unsupervised during the long Christmas holidays. A further two residential camps for children from a number of townships in and around Cape Town will also be created following last year’s successful inaugural initiative, bringing the total number to four.
Super Camps are holding a number of fundraising events throughout the year including their Super-Soak-a-Staff member activity on camp each week to reach their target, and have pledged to donate 25p from every booking at their UK based day programmes.
