View Alsace differently this autumn
Visitors to Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, will be able to get a whole new perspective on the city this autumn half-term with the opening of three new types of tour: by canoe, roller-blade or Segway. The historic city of Strasbourg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to an eclectic mix of architecture juxtaposed amongst the mediaeval cityscape of Alsatian black and white timber-framed buildings: from the magnificent Gothic Cathedral and the classical Rohan Palace to Richard Rogers’ striking European Court of Human Rights and the contemporary Mimram footbridge. Visitors can now view these and many other attractions by utilising the newly completed 400 km of cycle paths or by taking a paddle and exploring Strasbourg from the river Ill and its network of canals.
The Strasbourg Tourist Office (ot-strasbourg.com) provide English speaking Tour Guides who will accompany visitors on roller-blades, bicycle, by foot or, for the less energetic, by motorised Segway Personal Transporter. Alternatively, these tours can be combined with an English language audio guide of the city so that the tour can take place at a visitors’ own pace.
Tours of Strasbourg are also available by large open canoes. Experienced guides paddle the river Ill and provide an unparalleled opportunity to photograph the view that no-one else has! By seeing Strasbourg from the water visitors can also gain a fascinating insight into the settlement of the ancient city and the importance of the river and canals in its history.
