Designer dining, Thai style

11th September 2007 Print
Baan Khanitha is an award-winning Thai restaurant and the brainchild of Khanitha Akaranitikul, an elegantly chic lady who made her name as a designer of beautiful fashion garments for her Khanitha boutiques. Realising a need for somewhere to enjoy high quality Thai food in a traditional atmosphere, Khanitha decided to open a restaurant that matched her high expectations of cuisine and decor.

The result is Baan Khanitha (Khanitha's home), a charming restaurant that opened 9 years ago in a Thai-style house in Soi 23 Sukhumvit. A second restaurant, Baan Khanitha & Gallery was established on September 29, 1999 as the second branch of Baan Khanitha with the concept of home-style restaurant & gallery, exhibiting fabulous paintings of talented local and foreign artists.

What’s it all about?

Both restaurants offer a superb range of Thai dishes from all over the country, blending Royal Thai cuisine with the spicy flavours of the Thai countryside. Khanitha has selected her favourite recipes and added her own touches to give guests a real home-cooked taste of Thailand. Some of the most popular dishes include Kaeng Phed Ped Yang A-Ngun (Roast Duck Curry With Grapes), Pla Krapong Phad Khee Mao (Stir-fried Sea Bass With Chili, Hot Basil, and Eggplant) and Plaa Khung Yang (Grilled River Prawn With Spicy Herb Salad).

Chic?

With her eye for design, Khanitha created a homely ambiance through the use of traditional handicrafts, paintings, plants, and decor, serving delicious Thai cuisine on beautifully designed plates and dishes. Baan Khanitha was an instant success.

Both Baan Khanitha restaurants have won nine consecutive Bangkok 's Best Thai Restaurant' awards from Bangkok Dining & Entertainment Magazine since 1997-2005.
