Eastbourne’s new National Express agent

Eastbourne’s Tourist Information Centre, a one stop shop for everything needed when it comes to travelling to, from, and around the seaside resort, adds another service to its belt by becoming the town’s official National Express agent.

From last Monday 3 December, the Tourist Information Centre in Cornfield Road, has offered a ticket booking service for the country’s number one coach service, National Express. This is the first time that the Tourist Information Centre has offered this facility and hundreds more visitors are expected through its doors as a result.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said “This is great news for Eastbourne’s tourist services. The Tourist Information Centre already offers a wealth of information and knowledge when it comes to the best way to travel in Eastbourne but by taking on this new service, it means that visitors will be offered even more choice. I’m sure regular National Express travellers will be pleased too, to hear that they can book their coach tickets from a friendly face.”

After the closure of Eastbourne railway station’s Flagship travel office, a new agent was needed for National Express to serve its huge base of regular users in the town. Aside from booking tickets online from the official National Express website, the Tourist Information Centre is one of only two local offices to offer an over the counter booking facility.

This additional information service marks the end of a very busy 2007 for the Tourist Information Centre who have seen sales soar at 61% up on last year. Already offering great deals on train travel, including the Day Save ticket for Southern Rail, visitors are now given the option of coach travel too.

While the new booking system remains a trial, it is anticipated that the National Express service will attract more people into the Tourist Information Centre and further boost its growing sales.

For those in need of stocking fillers and small Christmas presents, the Tourist Information Centre is brimming with ideas for festive gifts too. As well as the huge information services the centre provides, it is full of ideal last minute gifts, from kids’ toys and games to pretty phone charms and bracelets.
