Eurostar named "World's Leading Rail Service"

Eurostar, the high-speed train operator that links the UK and the Continent, has been named as ‘World’s Leading Rail Service’ at the 2007 World Travel Awards, the travel industry’s equivalent of the ‘Oscars’.

The Awards were voted for by 167,000 travel professionals around the world, including more than 110,000 travel agents, and recognise outstanding achievement across the global travel industry.

The award follows the move of Eurostar’s London terminal from Waterloo to the wonderfully restored St Pancras International station in central London, and the launch of services on High Speed 1, Britain’s first high-speed line.

Eurostar has also become the world’s first train operator to make all journeys carbon neutral, at no extra cost to travellers. The move is part of Eurostar’s ‘Tread Lightly’ initiative to reduce its environmental impact, and follows independent research that has shown that a Eurostar journey generates one tenth the amount of carbon dioxide emissions of an equivalent flight.
