New airline routes for Malta
The Malta Tourism Authority has announced a highly successful 2007 with UK visitor figures reaching 487,000, the highest number of tourists visited since 1994 and an increase of 12.9% from 2006 where visitors totalled 431,339. At the same time, BA has announced new routes into Malta and Air Malta and easyJet have increased their capacity.British Airways has confirmed that it will continue to fly a daily service to London Gatwick, replacing the route currently operated by its franchisee partner GB Airways.
From 30 March 2008 the flights will be operated by BA mainline using Boeing 737’s.
The full service flights, which will include complimentary food and drinks, business and economy class cabins, will offer a daily departure from Malta at 05.25. The return flight will leave Gatwick at 21.55.
Air Malta has announced its summer 2008 schedule, with highlights including increased frequency from Manchester to Malta. From 1 May, Air Malta will offer eight flights a week from Manchester, with an extra flight on Friday offering visitors further opportunity to visit the island for a weekend break.
In addition to the above, The Malta Tourism Authority has come to an agreement with Easyjet for new routes on both Gatwick and Manchester flights. Easyjet will operate 10 times a week from Gatwick starting 29 March 2008 and also from Manchester, twice-weekly from 29 March 2008, increasing to daily from early May.
