Bonding in Lincolnshire

7th March 2008 Print
An article describing a father and son walk along the Viking Way in Lincolnshire has just been awarded a major travel accolade in New York City. Bruce Northam has clinched the prestigious grand prize for his article 'Bonding in Britain', which focused on a father and son walk along the Viking Way in the picturesque countryside of Lincolnshire.

VisitBritain, the national tourist office for England, Wales and Scotland announced the winners for the 12th annual Travel Journalism Awards during a press launch in New York City.

Bruce along with his father Basil, came to the county last year, to follow the Viking Way trail, on a nine day trip organised and hosted by Lincolnshire Tourism. The walk took Bruce and Basil from the north of the county, starting at Barton Upon Humber, all the way down to the beautiful Georgian town of Stamford, taking in places such as The Wolds, Woodhall Spa and Lincoln to name just a few of the places.

The actual article is a charming, sentimental and though provoking piece, beautifully written against the backdrop of the Lincolnshire countryside and can be viewed by visiting Newsday.com/travel/VisitBritainWinner.

Feargus Mack, Head of Marketing at Lincolnshire Tourism was delighted at the news. “This is a terrific tribute to Lincolnshire and its peaceful and beautiful landscape. Lincolnshire really is the perfect place to truly get away from it all and rediscover yourself and Bruce's moving feature reflects that in a very personal way.”

This is the second major US travel award Lincolnshire Tourism has won. From our award-winning Pride & Prejudice campaign from 2006, US writer Sandra Ramani's cover story based on a Pride & Prejudice trip to Peak District & Derbyshire and Lincolnshire in the New York Daily News won Best Newspaper Feature, VisitBritain Travel Journalism Awards 2006.
