Surf's up in Ireland
Hot off the TV news comes a report that Ireland’s north-west coast – and particularly Bundoran beach in Donegal – is the new rival to Bondi for surfers. According to those ‘in the know’, there are many world-class reef and beach breaks within five kilometres of Bundoran and waves in excess of 15 metres high have been experienced and ridden at Mullaghmore Head in the last few weeks. With punitive charges by airlines for excess baggage, the best way for surfers and their gear to reach Ireland’s north-west is to pack up the car, tie the boards on the roof and take an Irish Ferries’ crossing from Holyhead to Dublin.
Prices start from as little as £148 for a return crossing for car and driver; additional passengers pay £40 return.
