Slovakia opens its first UK tourist office

Slovakia opens its first UK tourist office The Slovak Tourist Board is launching its first UK Tourist Office, following the appointment of emerging destination specialist, Mary Stuart-Miller of The Creative Connection UK Ltd.

The new office, which opens in September 2008, will distribute information about Slovakia to the British public, the travel trade press and to journalists and for the first time the country will be offering press trips and familiarisation trips to journalists and tour operators.

Martin Horvath, Director of the Slovak Tourist Board, said “Slovakia has excellent flying links with the UK from several of its major cities and a varied tourist offer, including historic cities, spas, activity holidays and winter sports. We’re looking forward to working with the British public, press and travel partners to welcome an increased number of British visitors to Slovakia”.

Mary Stuart-Miller, the newly appointed director of the UK Slovakia Tourist Office said “Slovakia is a new destination for many British travellers and greater awareness of its diverse offer will attract a lot of interest. As one of the youngest European countries, its emergence now as a tourist destination comes at a time of significant investment in its tourism infrastructure.

A new 5* Kempinski hotel opens in the High Tatras Mountains in October 2008, the country has good road and rail links throughout central Europe, three international airports and one of its best known resorts, AquaCity, was named the world’s leading green resort in the 2007 World Travel Awards. With a good and varied tourism offer and prices around a third of the more mainstream European destinations, this is certainly a destination to watch.”

The Slovak Republic, with a population of just over 5 million is located in Central Europe and is one of `New Europe’s’ emerging destinations, following separation from Czechoslovakia in 1993. It has three international airports, to the capital Bratislava, the second city Kosice in the east and to Poprad, in the northern High Tatras mountains. Slovakia has been a member of the EU since 2004 and adopts the euro in January 2009.

It is still one of the most affordable European destinations, yet has one of the fastest growing economies, currently attracting investment particularly to the popular High and Low Tatras Mountains, where a new 5* Kempinski hotel opens in October 2008 and where the world renowned AquaCity Resort is located, winner of the first World Travel Award for `world’s leading green resort’.
