Fall events in West Virginia Shades of colour line the tracks and trails of John Denver’s country roads throughout West Virginia as the state promotes it’s Fall season’s events. With over 80% of the state covered by forests, fall foliage remains a key attraction. In addition to the ever-changing backdrop of colour, visitors can join the local festivities which celebrate the season, ranging from pumpkin picking and carving, hayrides, the Golden Delicious Festival while sipping on locally brewed hot cider from the abundant apple orchards.

There are many driving tours to capture the colour. The state has highlighted five driving tours to assist visitors in finding the best visual experience: Scarlet Heartland, Mountain Magic, River Reflections, Southern Accents and Golden Getaway while, along the way, the latest fall colour reports starting in late September are provided by visiting wvforestry.com.

Just as the trees lose their leaves in preparation for the winter, water from Summersville Lake is released dropping levels by 77 feet to ensure the best white water rafting conditions for Gauley Season. This begins on Sept 5 and runs every weekend until mid-October. The upper half of the river boasts class III-V rapids, while the lower maintains class III-IV rapids.

Other outdoor activity includes hiking, biking and horseback riding and are all detailed on Adventuresinwv.com.
