Fall events in West Virginia

Shades of colour line the tracks and trails of John Denver’s country roads throughout West Virginia as the state promotes it’s Fall season’s events. With over 80% of the state covered by forests, fall foliage remains a key attraction. Just as the trees lose their leaves in preparation for the winter, water from Summersville Lake is released dropping levels by 77 feet to ensure the best white water rafting conditions for Gauley Season. This begins on Sept 5 and runs every weekend until mid-October. The upper half of the river boasts class III-V rapids, while the lower maintains class III-IV rapids.
