Lonely Planet lists Canada in 2009 Top Ten
The Lonely Planet imprint is synonymous with all that is hip and groovy in the travel world, so we’re thrilled to report that Canada has made the list of the Top 10 Countries for 2009 in LP's Best in Travel: 2009 - 756 of the World's Hottest Trends, Destinations, Journeys, and Experiences , arriving in bookstores in October.Which means that Canada’s mountains, lakes, coffee shops and cultural festivals will soon be overrun by earnest, cool-hunting hipsters who literally hang on every word and to-do list which the influential Australian publishing company produces each year.
But, don’t take it from us. Here’s what the LP editors had to say: "Canada is too polite to say so, but it's ready to be fêted. Winter or summer, Canada is a land of action, with an insane amount of terrain to play on."
Can’t-miss cultural festivals include the world-famous Festival de International de Jazz de Montreal in Quebec, not to mention the Ford World Men’s Curling Championships next April in Moncton, NB, and the rootin’ tootin’ Calgary Stampede in Alberta.
And after they’re done with this fair country, where will the backpack-toting hordes be heading next? Off to Oman, Rwanda, Georgia (the one that borders Russia, not Florida), Bangladesh, and Kyrgyzstan, with stopovers in Greenland and Peru.
