By George – We’d still rather have a cup of tea

Is Britain’s cappuccino culture a frothy fallacy? It is according to a recent survey that says we are still officially a nation of tea drinkers. Visitbirmingham.com asked 2000 UK adults for their first choice cuppa and 39% picked tea as their best beverage in the morning at weekends compared with only 8% who chose a cappuccino.

Fitting really as Birmingham grocer John Sumner invented the well known Ty.phoo tea brand in his city-based tea shop in 1903.

Birmingham has a number of traditional tea rooms including the Edwardian Tea Rooms at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and Hudson’s, housed in a Grade I listed building designed by William Lethaby, Hudson's was a winner of the prestigious Egon Ronay Tea House of the Year.
