8th October 2008 Print
Some of the world’s top golf players including Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose will be taking part at the first ever Castellon Masters-Costa Azahar (castellomasters.com), which takes place at the Mediterraneo Golf Club in Borriol (Castellon province, north of Valencia) from 23 to 26 October 2008.

The new tournament, which is part of the PGA European Tour, is expected to attract thousands of both national and international golf enthusiasts, and aims to become a new regular date in the international golfing calendar. Tickets cost just 10 euros each day.

The 18-hole golf course at Mediterraneo Golf Club has been slightly modified with new tees and a more complex itinerary to make it more challenging for the players taking part in the tournament and any other golfer visiting afterwards.

Besides the competition itself, visitors will be able to enjoy a full programme of complementary activities, including golf lessons by the likes of Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson or Justin Rose. At the same time, the nearby Golf & Country Club Panoramica will be hosting the Castello Masters Amateur on 23 and 24 October. This parallel amateur tournament is open to any golfer wishing to take the challenge and those interested should register at Panoramica (panoramicaclubdegolf.com).

The celebration of the Castellon Masters-Costa Azahar tops a year of successful international sporting events taking place in the Region of Valencia, including the World Athletics Championship in February, the European F1 Grand Prix in Valencia in August, and the start of the Volvo Ocean race in Alicante this month.

The province of Castellon, at the northern end of the Region of Valencia, offers plenty of other attractions for golfers and non-golfers alike, including miles of sandy beaches on the Costa Azahar, unspoilt mountain countryside in the interior, a mouth-watering gastronomy and plenty of other surprises, from World Heritage cave paintings to one of Spain’s best modern art museums.

The Region of Valencia, which includes the cities of Valencia, Alicante and Castellon, as well as the Costa Blanca and Costa Azahar, is an ideal destination to play golf in beautiful surroundings and mild weather all year round. The region has a choice of 25 golf courses to suit all levels, many designed by renowned international golfers such as Jack Nicklaus, Severiano Ballesteros or Jose Maria Olazabal.
