Ruby waxes lyrical about Cornwall

Ruby waxes lyrical about Cornwall Thursday 16th October is the hotly tipped night in the Cornish tourism calendar as the best of the best come together for a nail biting evening at the Cornwall Tourism Awards - and this year even the runners-up will be smiling! Flame haired, comic genius Ruby Wax is confirmed as the guest speaker for the award ceremony at the Headland Hotel, and is guaranteed to send the 300 attendees into fits of laughter with tales of her past visits to Cornwall. Ruby’s quips will offer light-hearted relief to an otherwise emotional evening as the award finalists jostle for space on the winners roll.

In anticipation of the night Ruby Wax enthuses: “Like many people Cornwall is a special place of mine. My visits were always so much fun; thinking about them still makes me laugh now. It was in Cornwall that I had my one and only attempt at surfing…never again. I ended up with a broken toe and one bruised ego!”

Ruby’s attendance will mark the seventh annual Awards, organised by VisitCornwall to highlight the best of Cornish tourism, promote the county and encourage ever-higher standards in the local industry.

Teresa Timms of VisitCornwall is confident that Ruby’s visit to Cornwall next month is the tonic that Cornwall’s tourism industry needs: “With the disappointing weather and the credit crunch to contend with, many of our local businesses have had a tough year, so we’re delighted that Ruby has agreed to come and give us some much-needed laughs.

“The judging process for this year is now complete, and, in spite of some of the gloom in the industry, the standard is once again breathtakingly high. We’re assured of some strong competition in each category, and a great night all round.”
