Brits holidaying off the beaten track

14th October 2008 Print
Recent reports reveal that Britons are becoming increasingly adventurous with their holiday choices, swapping the usual week in the sun for a more daring break. However, previous research from American Express Insurance Services discovered in that one in four people (24%) plan to go on holiday this year without travel insurance - a risky business given the recent demand for more adventurous holiday activities off the beaten track.

Briton’s may be leaving themselves potentially vulnerable by not checking the full details of their travel insurance policy; those planning more high risk holidays such as extreme sports holidays or trips to destinations against the advice of the Foreign Office, should make certain that they are protected in case the worst should happen.

Chris Rolland, Head of American Express Insurance Services commented:

“With a growing number of Brits finding that there are not enough hours in the day, making sure that they take the time to ensure they are protected should the unexpected happen on holiday is very important.

“If people are planning a holiday, particularly to a more exotic destination, they should ensure that their policy covers them for all the activities they are likely to carry out including some extreme sports. It is always better to be safe than sorry so check with your insurer if in any doubt. In some cases people may have to pay an additional fee or get a specific policy if they plan to take part in more risky activities.

“American Express Insurance Services offers more than just a card. We offer hassle free insurance that leaves people with the peace of mind way to the peace of mind that their family are completely protected…. even if they are planning to go paragliding off the Pyrenees!”
