Lovely Levington puts Suffolk squarely on the map
Not many people outside of Suffolk will even recognise the name – Levington – but the tiny village, overlooking the River Orwell, is celebrating being named “England’s Village of the Year.”Just a few miles outside of county town, Ipswich, the residents of Levington enjoy the kind of rural lifestyle that townies and city-dwellers can only dream of.
Sarah Quinlan, owner of suffolktouristguide.com, an online guide to Suffolk which promotes the benefits of spending leisure time in Suffolk, thinks it’s a great example of what Suffolk has to offer.
She says, “There’s so much of this beautiful county to discover, and that means that it’s largely unspoilt. Venture slightly off the busy A12 or A14 through-routes and you can discover a gentler way of life. Places where the pace of life is slower and people take the time to enjoy the beautiful landscape around them.
“There can be few places within just an hour or two’s reach of London that offer these benefits,” she added. “And better still, it’s dotted with beautiful and historic hotels, independently run restaurants and a wealth of attractions.”
