Love is in the Suffolk air
In particular honeymooners are bucking the trend for expensive overseas holidays, instead opting for some of the best accommodation in the UK at a fraction of the costs.
Last month saw Best of Suffolk’s first proposal – Laura’s boyfriend got down on one knee in front of the open fire during a weekend away at the stunning period cottage 6 Town Steps in Aldeburgh to ask Laura to marry him – she reports in the visitors book that she said yes! The following week another couple spent their honeymoon at the very same cottage, enjoying all the comforts associated with a boutique hotel but with the added privacy and space that a holiday cottage provides.
Hot on the list of favourite honeymoon locations is The Workshop at Lime Tree Farm, which played host to many honeymooning couples this year. The stylish minimal interior, tranquillity and uninterrupted views over a wildflower meadow with friendly sheep for company are particular draws for young newlyweds. The Workshop was a finalist in the 2008 Tourism in Suffolk awards.
Another couple spent their honeymoon at Oakley House at Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast and have just bought a cottage in the pretty seaside coast to rent out through Best of Suffolk.
Best of Suffolk Director Naomi Tarry says: “We feel really honoured that people trust us to help them celebrate the important moments in their lives. People come to stay at our stylish properties for anything from two nights to a fortnight to celebrate many different things. We’ve hosted lots of birthday and wedding anniversary gatherings this year and people often buy a short break at one of our properties as a special gift for their family or friends. It’s an ideal way of bringing families together under one roof to celebrate together.”
It needn’t be expensive either, for example a 3 night break at Oakley House with uninterrupted sea views in Aldeburgh at this time of year works out at £38 a person per night based on eight people sharing the rental costs – cheaper than staying at most hotels and guest houses and with plenty of private space to relax and spend time together.
Naomi adds: “There have been births too - one of our regular guests contacted us recently to say they were booking again but this time with a new baby added to their family – they blamed the quality of our beds for the baby’s conception during their last visit at the same cottage!”
