Discover Mexico’s exciting new destination
Mexico’s newest official tourist board ‘Riviera Nayarit’ is focusing its efforts on cracking the UK market in 2009 thanks to a government cash injection of $1.5 billion and private investment of $350 million. The region is looking to build on its regular Mexicana de Aviación and British Airways service from London via Mexico City (in addition to other routes with Continental Airlines and American Airlines) and is set to become the next big hotspot for travellers looking to flee the mainstream crowds of Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
Protected by the dramatic Sierra Madre Mountains, Riviera Nayarit spans over 100 miles of Pacific Coastline stretching north from airport hub Puerto Vallarta on the west coast of Mexico.
Marc Murphy, director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitor’s Bureau commented: “Holidaymakers are probably familiar with Cancun and the Riviera Maya but unsure about what the west coast has to offer.
“We are seeking to differentiate the largely undeveloped Riviera Nayarit from our mainstream competitors, offering luxury accommodation including international brands such as Four Seasons and St. Regis as well as timeless bohemian fishing villages, nature reserves, spectacular beaches and archaeological sites”.
Thanks to an influx of private investors, new facilities and hotels that have launched in the last year include a 400 slip luxury marina in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and the boutique Hotel des Artistes and Café des Artistes del Mar in Punta de Mita as well as considerable investment from Spanish brand Iberostar, due to open its first hotel in the region this year.
UK operators currently tailoring holidays to the region include Carrier and Sunset Faraway Holidays.
