9th March 2009 Print
Krakow gets the Wanderlust thumbs up The Polish city of Krakow has been voted as one of the world’s top five cities by readers of Wanderlust magazine. The self-styled magazine “for people with a passion for travel” placed Krakow fourth place in its list of favourite cities for 2009.

The Polish capital of culture is described as a “bargain destination” by voters and with history, beautiful architecture, world-class restaurants and great shopping who could argue?

Making up the top five city destinations are Antigua in Guatemala, Kyoto in Japan, the US city of Boston and Cuban capital Havana.

Acting Director of the Polish National Tourist Office Ewa Binkin said: “It’s great to see Krakow in the top five of yet another list of the world’s best tourist destinations. The Royal Capital used to be the favourite city of Pope John Paul II and remains the favourite of artists, intellectuals, students and many people who simply love life”.

The many wonderful attractions in Krakow include Wawel Castle and the Old Town or Stare Miasto, which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 preserving the area’s medieval heritage.

The top 10 cities are:

Antigua, Guatemala
Kyoto, Japan
Boston, USA
Krakow, Poland
Havana, Cuba
Damascus, Syria
Luang Prabang, Laos
Cuzco, Peru
Sydney, Australia
Tallinn, Estonia
