Searches for Newquay soar as recession bites
Searches for Newquay are soaring according to a leading travel booking site, proving that with a strong Euro and recession biting, holidaying in the UK is a more attractive option.European hotel booking site, hotels.com, has reported searches for Newquay are up 160% compared to the same time last year, and with a long dry summer predicted by the Met Office, interest in Newquay is expected to continue.
Newquay’s official, award winning website - visitnewquay.org, launched by Tourism Newquay to help start marketing and promoting the town as a great holiday destination has also seen a strong interest, with hits in the last four weeks up by 34% on the previous month.
Richard Wilcox, Business development manager for Tourism Newquay, said: “We’re delighted that interest in visitnewquay.org keeps growing and it’s great that the major booking sites are echoing a strong interest in Newquay.
“Newquay has lots to offer and the new website is a great one stop shop for anyone interested in visiting the town. The site features information on where to stay, eat and drink and even tips on building the perfect sand castle.”
Richard added: “There’s lots going on in Newquay over the summer months and it’s great that the town’s Tourism Information Centre has just reopened after a rebrand in time for the summer months. Newquay has the full package when is comes to a UK holiday destination and I’m looking forward to welcoming the returning and new visitors this season.”
Tourism Newquay (visitnewquay.org) is a public / private partnership which has been set up with financial support from Restormel Borough Council – now Cornwall Council, VisitCornwall and Newquay Town Council. Tourism Newquay has been established as a CIC or Community Interest Company, a not-for-profit enterprise in which any future revenue has to be committed to marketing spend on behalf of the resort.
