Topping out at City Point in Derby

David Wilson East Midlands recently held a celebratory topping out ceremony at its City Point development in Derby to toast the completion of construction work on a brand new block of timber frame apartments.

As the name suggests, timber frame construction is a method of building that solely relies on timber frames for structural support. There are many advantages to this technique, not least its speed of build, thermal and acoustic excellence, durability, design flexibility but most importantly its environmental credentials.

This is the first time the Leicestershire-based housebuilder has utilised timber frames to build an apartment block and its success was most definitely rewarding of the champagne toast.

Darren Langton, Construction Director at David Wilson comments “As a company, we are open to new and exciting methods of build and we have been impressed with the ease and speed that the timber frames have afforded us to erect this new apartment block.

“Timber frames are one of the more modern build techniques and thanks to the success here, I’m sure we will look at utilising this method on further projects in the future.”

The new block of apartments have taken just eight weeks to erect but already they have been snapped up by a seasoned property investor who was quick to recognise their potential as a buy to let property.

Paul Perriam, Area Director at Bagshaws Residential, which is part of Sequence Homes, attended the topping out ceremony on behalf of the investor.
