Government cash boost for new homes in Stonegrove

6th November 2009 Print

£10 million of Government money to help kick start the housing market has been awarded to Barratt West London’s ‘Evolution’ development in Stonegrove it was announced last week.

The money will help create new jobs and will mean more new homes available to buy in 2010, according to Barratt.

“This is another welcome boost for the local economy and great news for anyone hoping to buy a new home of their own in London,” said Alastair Baird, Managing Director for Barratt West London.

“This is a major national scheme and to qualify for the money we had to meet some extremely tight criteria. The fact that Evolution was chosen is a great vote of confidence in this outstanding development.”

The money is part of a £450m Government scheme called Kickstart, which has been distributed to selected developments across the country.

Housing Minister John Healey said: “This Kickstart cash is a rapid response to the recession, using the power of Government investment to support the country through the downturn. With this investment, we are creating jobs and helping build the homes people need.”

Evolution will regenerate an area of tired, high-rise buildings and will transform the area into a re-born 21st Century community. ‘Canons Square’, the first phase of homes to be released at Evolution, comprises 34 one and two-bedroom apartments.

When complete, Evolution will offer over 900 one, two and three-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses, including around 400 affordable homes provided by Family Mosaic Housing Association.

The site will include a central ‘hub’, comprising a new community centre and church. The development surrounds The London Academy, a popular school for 11-18 year-olds.   There is also a local primary school nearby and a parade of shops for day-to-day needs within walking distance. The nearby Stanmore Underground Station, which is on the Jubilee line, provides easy access into Canary Wharf, making this location ideal for city workers.

Evolution is due to launch in spring 2010 although a select number of two-bedroom apartments in Canons Court have been released for sale ahead of the launch, with prices starting from £277,995.
