Pounds from heaven for skydive in aid of Marie Curie
A plucky secretary has raised over two thousand pounds for Marie Curie Cancer Care by completing a tandem skydive at The Parachute Centre based at Tilstock Airfield, near Whitchurch.
Lizzy Arthurs, a departmental secretary for McCarthy & Stone in Altrincham, took on the challenge as part the retirement builder’s charity of the year partnership with Marie Curie Cancer Care. McCarthy & Stone are aiming to raise at least £30,000 which will provide 1,500 hours of free home nursing care for terminally ill patients and their families in local communities across the UK.
The 26-year-old said: “I have wanted to do a skydive for ages and so this was the perfect opportunity to complete my ambition and raise money for a worthy cause at the same time. When I told my Mum I was doing the jump she nearly had kittens! I was really nervous when the plane door opened thousands of feet in the air. However, I loved every minute of it – it was the most exhilarating experience and I would definitely do it again, although I’m not sure my family would be too pleased!
“The people at The Parachute Centre were all really friendly and I would like to thank them all for making my experience one to remember. I would especially like to thank my tandem sky dive instructor Steve Davies for keeping me calm and relaxed throughout the skydive and thank ‘Herbie for filming it”.
Local Marie Curie Cancer Care community fundraiser, Hannah Taylor said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Lizzy and everyone at McCarthy & Stone for their fantastic fundraising efforts. Every pound raised by McCarthy and Stone employees and residents will help Marie Curie Nurses to care for more terminally ill people – allowing them to spend their final days in the comfort of their own homes with the people and things that matter to them most.”
McCarthy and Stone is currently selling a selection of one and two bedroom retirement apartments at developments across the Northern region.
