St Andrews by Barratt – London’s best selling development?

Homes are being snapped up at a tremendous rate at Barratt East London’s St Andrews development in Bromley by Bow. With 63 of the 98 private homes available in the first phase sold since the development launched in June 2009 at an average of four sales per week, could this be London’s best selling development?
Alastair Baird, managing director at Barratt London said: “We are thrilled with the recent number of sales at St Andrew’s; it has been a fantastic success. The homes are proving popular with both owner-occupiers and investors who are keen to buy into East London’s future at low off-plan prices.”
Investor Antonius Wubben says: “I’ve bought a very spacious two-bedroom apartment for £273,000; a solid investment for the future. The development is part of a larger regeneration programme and with such a convenient location, I am very confident I will be able to either rent or resell the apartment without any problems, with a good return.”
Previously investing in stocks and shares, Antonius decided to shift his investment to property, which he feels is much safer, especially due to the current market.
He continues: “With good off-plan prices and the current interest rate, it seemed foolish to wait and buy at a later date when prices could be significantly higher.”
Building work is now well under way on the site of the former Victorian hospital and the first completions are due in March 2010.
Set to be one of the largest single schemes started in London this year, the development of St Andrews is being undertaken in partnership with the Homes & Communities Agency, the London Development Agency, Tower Hamlets Council and Circle Anglia housing group.
When complete, there will be 964 new homes comprising, studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments in stylish contemporary buildings set within landscaped grounds.
554 of the new homes are for private sale and 410 will be available for affordable housing.
One third of the development will be dedicated to outside space, incorporating private courtyards as well as a ‘pocket park’ which will include a piece of art by renowned community artist Bobby Lloyd.
All homes are designed for open-plan living with balconies that maximise the sense of space and light. For maximum energy efficiency – and low energy bills – the development is being fitted with a communal energy centre which uses the latest low-carbon technology.
Buyers at St Andrews will also benefit from an on-site concierge service and there are plans for a fitness suite, crèche and coffee shop. There will also be a car club for residents, enabling them to use a ‘pool’ car when they need one.
St Andrews is situated in an incredibly convenient location. Bromley-by-Bow underground station is virtually next door and Devons Road DLR station is just around the corner, putting Canary Wharf, the City and the West End within quick, easy reach.
Stratford Station – East London’s transport hub – is less than a mile away, with mainline and bus services to London and the UK and, eventually, to Europe, thanks to a planned Eurostar stop. The station is also on the Jubilee and Central lines, providing easy commutes to the capital.
Barratt East London has scored top marks in this year’s Home Builders Federation customer satisfaction survey. The division was rated as the maximum 5 star builders in the annual HBF survey, in which more than 20,000 new home buyers nationwide took part.
Prices start from £215,000 for a one-bedroom apartment. For further information contact the Sales & Marketing Suite at St Andrews, Devons Road, Bromley-by-Bow, open daily from 10am to 6pm.
