A really rubbish Orchestra heads for London
Ever wonder what happened to your old toaster that finally kicked the bucket, or the kettle that got replaced, or even your outdated corded telephone? If you were told that they were now starring in a free concert in Covent Garden in December, would you think you’d gone crazy?
Let’s hope not, because thanks to the resourceful members of the Really Rubbish Orchestra, many old small electronic and electrical goods are now becoming the latest workable instruments for the modern day band. Skateboard guitars with bits of telephone and radio zithers are now some of the more popular pieces of equipment being strummed by the musicians this festive season.
Small items make up over 35% of all electronics purchased every year, but the levels of recycling these electrical goods are around 10% or lower. To bring this to Londoners’ attention, Recycle Now is backing a concert in the capital.
The Really Rubbish Orchestra will be joined by last year’s Last Choir Standing finalists ‘Hear Me Now’ on Tuesday 1st December to play some well-known Christmas carols for locals and tourists in Covent Garden. This is being done to raise awareness of the opportunities to recycle small electronic and electrical goods.
A sneak preview of the concert, brought to you by Recycle Now, can be seen in our video.
