Leeds BS holds Go Green Day

26th November 2009 Print

Leeds Building Society is holding a green day - 27 November 2009, to raise awareness of its commitment to further developing its green credentials.

The Society's overriding principles in going greener are to reduce the amount of energy and resources used, re-use resources and materials wherever possible and recycle all materials where this is feasible.

The Society has already launched a raft of measures to reduce its carbon footprint and help prevent climate change. This involved establishing a "Green Team" to champion green issues and support the development and implementation of the Society's Environmental Policy.

Achievements so far have included a more environmentally friendly electricity supply, a new more efficient printing strategy and automated lighting.

In order to highlight its commitment to green issues, Leeds Building Society is asking its staff to support the green day by wearing something green to work on Friday, such as a green dress, green tie, scarf or even green socks!

The Society is also encouraging its staff to go one step further and leave the car at home, walk to work, take the train or hop on a bus. Whilst at work staff are asked to take another small step and turn down the heating, use the recycle bins for glass, cans and plastic or switch off their PC at lunchtime.

To mark Green Day the Society is signing an Accord with Carbon Action Yorkshire and handing out healthy green and locally grown apples to staff.
