Numberplate could sell for £100,000

Fans of the late Princess of Wales will be queuing up to bid for car numberplate D1ANA at auction. The coveted registration plate is expected to fetch £100,000 - possibly more – when it goes up for auction at COYS “True Greats”, motoring auction at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London on December 1.

The number plate is part of a massive auction which is receiving attention from all over the world as investors and collectors look to new areas to invest their money in.

The auction, which celebrates COYS 90th anniversary, will see some 60 iconic cars, 58 guitars from the world or rock and pop, as well as models, automobilia and dozens of sporting guns, going under the hammer.

COYS are turning the preview for the sale on the evening of November 30th into a huge party which will see Charlie Chandler’s famous band “Behind Bars”, taking to the stage and some of the guitars being put through their paces by Mick Rogers – lead guitarist and founder member of Manfred Mann’s Earthband.

Top London Chef, William Drabble, and his Ririn Biggs assistant pastry chef, Ririn Biggs from the St James Hotel and Club at Park Place, in London, have designed a birthday cake with a “motoring flavour” which they will deliver to the party in  one of the most significant pre-war Rolls Royce's still to exist.

“Its not every day that a company celebrates its 90th anniversary”, said the Managing Director of COYS, Chris Routledge, who will present the history of COYS to assembled guests”, and we intend this to be a great party.” He added: “We are starting to come out of the doom and gloom of the recession and there is every indication that people are looking for that extra-special Christmas present.”

Amongst the cars being offered is the highlight of the sale is a 2004 Ferrari Enzo Estimate Refer Department; a 2005 Koenigsegg CCR, estimate Refer Department; a 1969 AC 428 Frua with only 2 owners and, beautifully restored, estimate £70,000-£80,000; a 1963 Porsche 356B Cabriolet (Restored), estimate- no Reserve; and a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, estimate £280,000-£350,000.
