The perfect place for family living

Following the arrival of baby Maisie at the start of the year, proud mum and dad Maxine and Stuart Plant began their search for a new home in a family-friendly location.

And having looked at lots of different second-hand and brand new properties in the Derby area, they found their perfect place with plenty of space at George Wimpey’s Oakhampton development in the village of Hilton.

Maxine (24), who grew up in Hilton, explains: “We had been living in a three-bedroom semi-detached house in Derby, but with Maisie’s first nine months having flown by, we wanted to find a nice location with good schools and a safe, friendly environment in which she can grow up.”

Having had their hopes dashed when the sale of a house they had spotted on the second-hand market fell through, Maxine and Stuart (30) looked at the new George Wimpey homes at Oakhampton, and were delighted by what they found.

“We decided to look at new-build homes because of the incentives housebuilders can offer to purchasers, but in our position, with a property to sell, we found that it was only George Wimpey that could offer us a special deal,” says Maxine.

“We chose to use their easymover scheme, which took away the stress of selling our old home – in fact, we didn’t have to worry about it at all and George Wimpey had sold it for us within just a few weeks.”

The new, three-bedroom ‘Wyvern’ home that they chose boasts extra space compared with their old house, and the modern open-plan layout of the kitchen/dining room and large lounge means that it’s easier for Maxine, who is studying for a degree in business management, and Stuart, who works in the leather tanning trade in Derby, to keep a close eye on Maisie.

The ground floor of their home is completed by a cloakroom off the entrance hallway, while the ‘Wyvern’ also has an en-suite master bedroom, two further bedrooms and a main bathroom, providing plenty of space for their growing family.

The ‘Wyvern’ housetype is currently available to reserve at Oakhampton, priced from £148,500.

“Our experience of moving with George Wimpey was excellent,” adds Maxine. “The Sales Executive, Debbie, was fantastic – very personable and listened to what we wanted to make sure we found the right home and received the right incentive package to suit our circumstances.”

Using the easymover scheme, customers like Maxine and Stuart, who have a home to sell, can sit back and relax while George Wimpey finds a buyer for their current property and pays their estate agency fees.

Incentives are also available on the ‘Wyvern’ for first-time buyers, and on the one-bedroom ‘Milden’ coach house apartments, priced from only £89,000.

The ‘Wyvern’ and the ‘Milden’, like all new homes at the development, enjoy a high standard specification including gas central heating, double glazing and fitted kitchen with built-in oven, hob and cooker hood, and each property also has at least one parking space or a garage.

Oakhampton is ideally located near to a nature reserve and Hilton village centre is within easy walking distance with its general store, village hall and several public houses, including a 15th century inn.

Just a short drive away is the bustling city of Derby, home to a vast array of independent and high street stores, an excellent range of leisure facilities and a wide choice of bars and restaurants.

To find out more about moving to Oakhampton, the Sales Centre is located off The Mease, Hilton, near Derby, and opens seven days a week from 11am to 5pm.
