The on-going debate between old vs. new homes continues as Durkan Estates highlights cash-conscious homebuyers at its Bauhaus development in Croydon, Surrey are taking a long term view when conducting their property search.

Increasingly buyers like 45 year old John Huggett are looking to new homes which benefit from lower on-going running costs, energy efficiency and value for money.

John, a 45 year old local businessman purchased a two bedroom apartment at Durkan’s Bauhaus development in Croydon.  John comments: “The first property I purchased was a 1970s apartment which I found extremely high maintenance in terms of general running costs.  I therefore loved the idea of purchasing a new property where everything is brand new and when I noticed Bauhaus I knew that it would be the perfect place for me.  There is no comparison to my old property!  I haven’t had to spend any time or money on anything, plus my energy bills are lower, a winning result all round!”

On average, it costs around £30,000 to bring a second hand property up to the same standard as a brand new home, which covers the cost of replacing the kitchen, heating system, wiring, roof insulation and guttering, bathroom, windows and general redecoration to spruce up tired, old interior schemes.

Kathryn Price, Development Manager for Durkan Estates, comments: “When buying a new Durkan property, purchasers have the assurance we are with them every step of the way, offering expert guidance and advice. At Bauhaus, contemporary designs, high specifications and value for money all come as standard so residents couldn’t want for more.”
