A brand new affordable housing scheme in a sought-after area of Surrey sold out in just three hours. All 25 new shared ownership homes at A2Dominion’s Charlton Village scheme, where prices started at just £66,000 for a 40 per cent share, were snapped up by first-time buyers.

Denise Stewart, A2Dominion’s Director of Sales & Marketing (South), said: "Now is a good time for first timer buyers to be investing in a home due to economic signs showing growth.

“Research indicates that house prices are increasing while the Bank of England has reported that October was the eleventh month in a row that the number of mortgage approvals rose.

“It is unusual to sell out an entire development in just three hours, but this clearly shows just how strong the demand is for high quality affordable homes.

“Charlton Village is in a fantastic location close to Shepperton, yet still within easy travelling distance to London so it’s no surprise they proved such a hit with house-hunters.”

More than 70 people descended on the Charlton Village Open day in November.

The homes sold were available through the Government’s part-buy part-rent scheme, which allows buyers to purchase a share of a home they can afford, and pay a subsidised rent on the part they do not own. Over time, they can increase their shares in the home until they eventually own it outright.

The homes at the £6.9 million Charlton Village scheme are being built on the site of a former transport depot. Charlton Village is only about half a mile from Upper Halliford Station and just over a mile from Shepperton Station, both of which provide regular services to London.

There’s a range of amenities available in nearby Shepperton, from local shops and restaurants to green open spaces, riverside walks and the tranquil Shepperton Marina.

There’s also plenty of primary and secondary schools, both state and independent, in the local area. About three miles away in Sunbury, there is a golf club, health club and leisure centre with swimming pool.

A2Dominion has been working in partnership with Spelthorne Borough Council on the scheme, along with contractor Inspace Partnerships, architect Stanford Eatwell and employers’ agent Harris and Porter.
