Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has announced that nine of the company’s first year apprentices have been offered permanent positions with the company. All nine successfully completed three-year apprenticeships at the head office and manufacturing plant at Goodwood, West Sussex.

Rolls-Royce has also announced the start of recruitment for the company’s next intake of apprentices. The successful applicants will join the apprenticeship programme in August 2010 working alongside skilled craftspeople in the paint, wood, leather, assembly or maintenance areas.

With the recent launch of the new model, Ghost, the apprentices join the company at an exciting time. Rolls-Royce has created over 100 new jobs and invested £40 million in the infrastructure of the manufacturing plant in readiness for the new model series. The first customer cars will be delivered in the coming weeks.

Tom Purves, CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, speaking at the company’s Apprentice Recognition Event at Chichester Festival Theatre, said, “We are delighted to announce the employment of our first completing apprentices and we congratulate them on their new roles with the company. Ghost is likely to continue to create employment opportunities over the next few years and new apprentices joining the company will be ideally positioned to take advantage of this.”

The company’s apprenticeship programme was successfully launched in 2006 and has received applications from around the world. The programme provides people aged 16-24 with the opportunity to train with the Goodwood-based manufacturer of the world’s best selling super-luxury cars. The apprenticeships last for up to four years and combine on-the-job training with studying for nationally recognised qualifications.  The opportunity to join the company following a successful apprenticeship is a possibility but not guaranteed – only the best apprentices are selected. The programme has been designed in conjunction with the Learning Skills Council (LSC), South East Economic Development Agency (SEEDA) and Chichester College.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is committed to the training and development of young people in the UK manufacturing industry. This year, 60 young men and women have been employed on industrial placements with the company ranging in duration from six to twelve months. The company also runs a successful Graduate programme, with new positions made available each year.
