An on-line wine retailer which offers customers restaurant quality wine to be enjoyed at home, has linked up with one of the industry’s best know celebrity TV wine experts, Oz Clarke.

The Purveyor, which stocks a range of over 500 quality wines, champagnes and spirits supplied by the UK’s leading on-trade supplier Matthew Clark, has linked up with Oz to create his ‘Best Christmas Mixed Case’, giving customers the perfect mix of wines to see them over the Christmas period.

Adam Houlding, managing director of The Purveyor, said: “Oz Clarke's passion for quality wine and making the wine choice simple marries The Purveyors' ethos, range and easy to use website.

“This exclusive pairing offers our customers great choice and a one-stop shop of buying Oz's excellent choice of wines, as featured in his new book ‘250 BEST Wines of 2010.’ I am sure there will be further Oz Clarke offers of quality wine available through The Purveyor in the future”

Oz’s selection gives the perfect accompaniments to the Christmas meal, as described below by Matthew Clark’s wine category manager Simon Haywood, in addition to Oz’s tasting notes on each of the wines:

Errazuriz Wild Ferment Chardonnay, Casablanca Valley
Richness and intensity of Chilean fruit with the texture and mellow flavours usually only found in Burgundy. If you like white with your turkey this is the one. Its creamy nut and tropical fruit demeanour stands up well to the wide range of flavours that surround the centrepiece and positively sings along with the bread sauce.

Villa Maria Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough
Can something sizzle like ice? These flavours do, they make me shiver with delight. An excellent option for partnering with the smoked salmon, or any strongly flavoured fish dish you have planned.

Villa Maria Private Bin Riesling, Marlborough
Attractively not quite dry flavour of apple puree and orange zest, appreciate its good zesty style. Another good option for fish, its deliciously generous fruit sets it up for the apéritif role if the sparkler has already been emptied. Worth opening to accompany a goose, particularly if served with apple sauce.

Vidal Syrah, Hawkes Bay
Fascinating and delightful. Cherry fruit runs through the wine and the oaky warmth of brown manila envelopes. The red choice for turkey or goose and a natural match for chestnut stuffing, but would be just brilliant with a rib of beef when everyone has had their fill of turkey.

Errazuriz Shiraz Max Reserva, Aconcagua Valley
A beautiful beast, smokey as boy scouts’ tarpaulin but as sweet as blackcurrant jam. A rich warming red that has smokey, savoury notes, certainly at home with the cheeseboard, or perhaps the second bottle to open with the turkey if you have a houseful and fancy the comparison.

Cloudy Bay Pelorus, Marlborough
Outstanding fizz, beautifully creamy, macaroons, hazelnuts, fresh and foaming. A perfect Apéritif with the smoked salmon or perhaps one to pop at New Year… if you can restrain yourself from sampling its creamy delights.

Gonzalez Byass Nectar Pedro Ximénez
Gold medal award winner at the International Wine Challenge 2009, nectar by nature.
Serve well-chilled in small glasses with anything sweet, and especially delicious drizzled over vanilla ice-cream. Keeps well in the fridge for a few days if you let it!
