Explore the world of Sherlock Holmes with new iPhone app
With the new Guy Richie blockbuster Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law hitting cinema screens on Boxing Day, the profile of the world famous detective and his London haunts has never been higher.
To mark this renewed upsurge in interest, a new iPhone London guide has been launched which traces locations connected to the stories created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
‘The Sherlock Holmes Guide to London’ iPhone App features more than 60 locations with the Charing Cross Hotel on The Strand at the centre of all the action. Featured in the climax to The Bruce-Partington Plans, the hotel is the perfect base from which to explore the London of Sherlock Holmes.
The Sherlock Holmes Guide to London iPhone App is thought to be the first of its kind. It includes 7,000 words, more than 100 photographs and easy-to-use mapping to transport you back to a time when London was a city of fog, hansom cabs and a network of crime. From the Charing Cross hotel you can solve the mysteries all over again.
It was in the Charing Cross hotel’s smoking room where Holmes lured the spy Hugo Oberstein into a trap, revealing his false loyalties and saving the Bruce-Partington plans from being put up for auction in all the naval centres of Europe. Situated at the entrance to Charing Cross station, the hotel is a focal point for the hectic movements of the crafty sleuth who knew the area like the back of his hand. With an imposing Victorian façade and an elaborate interior to match, the building forms the perfect backdrop to explore the world of Sherlock Holmes.
Stay at the centre of all the action at Charing Cross hotel from only £129 per room including VAT and breakfast, price is subject to availability.
