200 elderly Vauxhall pensioners are set to enjoy a happy Christmas after receiving festive hampers from the Vauxhall Visiting Committee.

“At Christmas, we wanted to give a little extra Christmas cheer,” said Vauxhall Community Officer Cherie Denton. “Together, the Vauxhall Pensioners Association and the Employee Charity Fund donated £1,450 and, with the help of Asda in Wigmore Lane, we were able to make up 200 hampers for some of our more needy recipients. Many of our pensioners worked for the company for several years, and have given a lot to Vauxhall. This is our way of saying thank you and giving a little something back.”

The committee, who are themselves Vauxhall pensioners, regularly visit elderly ex-employees in the local area throughout the year. In fact, one visitor, Glyn Morgan, is a sprightly 90-year-old who still finds time to visit his ex-colleagues. The committee has been running for 20 years and its members are dedicated to supporting the local community by carrying out charitable work for Macmillan Cancer Care, Keech Hospice Care and homeless charity, Noah.
