Brits prefer life on the avenue

3rd January 2010 Print

Merry Meeting, Sleigh Crescent or even Cold Christmas Lane are the perfect seasonal addresses, yet UK homeowners would most prefer to live on an Avenue all year round than anywhere else according to a poll on reallymoving.com, the UK’s leading provider of online quotes for home-moving services.

The survey showed that addresses perceived as more ‘upmarket’ and therefore desirable by homeowners are Avenue (17%), closely followed by Gardens (15%) and Lane (12%). By contrast, Bank, Green, Row and Terrace were the least popular places to live, all receiving less than 1% of votes cast.

While some of the UK’s most prestigious and expensive residential roads are tagged with Avenue, Square and Gardens, it is the Avenue that scored tops in this survey.

Rosemary Rogers, Director, reallymoving.com comments:

“Property has always been a British passion and as the mantra states, it is all about location, location, location. We all have very clear ideas about where we would most like to live and having the right sounding address is just as important.

“Homeowners now have a wealth of information at their fingertips, from aerial location shots to terrain maps and street views, which they can check to see if the location meets their approval even before they step inside the property.”
