Great Plains have announced their collaboration with Plan UK, one of the largest child-centred community development organisations in the world, helping children and their families in 48 of the poorest countries to break the cycle of poverty.

Great Plains has designed a capsule collection – embroidered tote bag, cotton vests and a set of bangles - exclusively for Plan UK to help raise money for their Girls Fund – part of the ‘Because I am a Girl’ campaign - becauseiamagirl.org. Plan launched the campaign to ensure that girls around the world have the same opportunities as boys; Plan believe that by making sure girls go to school and receive a good quality education, we can break the cycle of poverty and discrimination affecting many communities.

An extra year of primary school boosts girls' wages by 10 to 20 percent, benefitting their communities, their families and eventually their children.

The collection has been designed exclusively for the campaign with the tote bag featuring ‘Because I am a Girl’ embroidered using patterns from the Great Plains summer range, cotton vests will be available in three colours from the summer palette using a print from the main range featuring in the inside yoke and exclusive to greatplains.co.uk a set of antique bronze and silver bangles held together with a delicate engraved charm. Great Plains will donate £2 from the sale of each item to the Girls Fund. All items will be available from greatplains.co.uk, with the tote bag and vest available from selected department stores and independent boutiques nationwide from March 2010.

Marie Staunton, Chief Executive, Plan UK “We welcome this groundbreaking opportunity to work with Great Plains. There are millions of girls around the world who miss out on the chance to go to school, or acquire new skills that can transform their lives. Their families are either too poor or do not value girls enough to invest in the skills they need to break out of poverty. Great Plains support will help give many of these girls the chance of an education and a future.”
