Barratt boosts North East housing market

The housing market recovery in the North East received a new boost today when the region’s leading housebuilder announced it would be opening nine new sites in the next six months alone.
Barratt North East will start work on nine new developments comprising around 550 new homes in the first half of 2010. The developments have a total sales value of £92m and provide further evidence that the property market in the region is recovering ahead of some other parts of the country.
The sites are located at Chester-le-Street, Coxhoe, Newcastle, Spennymoor, Sunderland, Throckley and Washington.
“There is still strong demand for houses in this region and this is helping the housing market to outperform expectations,” said Bernard Rooney, Managing Director at Barratt North East.
“We would not be making this significant commitment to the market in this area unless we were confident about its prospects in the medium-term”.
“By building these developments we will be bringing new jobs and creating well-designed, competitively-priced new homes which local people need.”

- Former Charlton Fencing site, Chester-le-Street – £5.5m scheme for 24 homes
- The Limes, Coxhoe – £13m scheme for 80 homes
- Greenside, Newcastle Great Park – £11m scheme for 29 homes
