Passion Play 2010 - Don't wait another 10 years

The Passion Play

It only takes place every ten years and tickets are going fast. Just 100 days to go before the premiere of the Passion Play 2010 will kick off the 41th edition of an inspirational theatrical event.

The re-enactment of the passion of Christ features 148 performers with speaking roles, up to 1000 people on the open-air stage in the crowd scenes and the enchanting backdrop of the Ammergau Alps. Rehearsals are well under way now on the open-air stage in the purpose-built theatre, beards are being grown and hair left uncut.

Pictures of the performers before and after the so-called "hair decree", which has been in place since April 2009, can be seen on oberammergau-passion.com. Visitors can expect powerful performances by these performers, who must all have lived in Oberammergau for at least 20 years or been born there, and a stunning stage design.

The Oberammergau Passion Play 2010 will take place between 15 May and 3 October 2010. For the first time ever, performances will start in the afternoon at 2.30 p.m. and last until approximately 10.30 p.m. including a three-hour break for dinner.

For information on how to attend the Passion Play 2010 and booking arrangements from the UK and Ireland, visit oberammergau-passion.com. The site now also features a guestbook, FAQs and a "latest news" section.
