Couple move from ‘Newhall to Newhall’

Julie and Scott Woolcott are Newhall fans, so much so that they have recently bought their second home on the development.
For Julie, moving from “Newhall to Newhall” is perfectly logical, as the community suits her and her husband’s requirements perfectly. So why would they go anywhere else?
The Woolcotts were originally drawn to Newhall for its originality and excellent connections. Julie explains: “It’s completely different from anything else we have ever seen. We loved the contemporary look of it. Also, Harlow is really accessible; it’s got two stations and is near the M25. Previously we were in Bishops Stortford and moving to Harlow took fifteen minutes off our journeys to work.”
Once they were living there, Scott and Julie really bought into the Newhall concept. “It really has its own ethos, its own culture,” she enthuses. “There’s mutual respect for the houses and the gardens and everything is beautifully kept. Everyone is very friendly, and there are people here from all parts of the country and from all walks of life. We like that.” When the Woolcotts’ friends come to visit, they are always surprised. “You never expect this in Harlow. It’s a little oasis.”
They bought their first Newhall house in 2005. Julie describes it as “a long flat house with lots of glass.” They have now upsized to a four-bedroom townhouse which is more traditional in layout, meaning that, as Julie says; “I have to be a little more organised!” Also, changes in Julie’s way of working meant that a different house was required.
She now works mainly from home running her own energy assessment company, Rating Green (ratinggreen.co.uk), calculating carbon emissions for private and public buildings. The fourth bedroom, which was designed with the flexibility to be a study if necessary, makes an excellent home office for her. Scott still commutes to London where he works as a product manager for a data management company.
Julie is very enthusiastic about the other features of their new home. “A lovely top floor terrace, a fantastic aspect because we’re end of terrace, and it’s really light. We have a fabulous kitchen/dining room and love the high ceilings everywhere. I also like the fact that nearby there are lots of different styles of houses and apartments, it is not all the same when you look out of the window.”
In Julie’s opinion, they have certainly made the right decision by settling in Harlow. Apart from the pleasure of living at Newhall, she likes the good selection of shops in the town and is looking forward to the forthcoming regeneration that is planned. Harlow is even benefiting from the ‘Olympic effect’ as it now has a direct rail link to the Olympic site in Stratford. Julie says; “We have already had enquiries from people wanting to rent our house while the Games are on. So I think Newhall would make a good investment for someone who wanted to let their home.”
“There is a wide choice of architect designed, ultra contemporary homes currently available at Newhall. On, North Chase, for example, they range from one and two-bedroomed apartments up to three, four and five bedroom family houses,” said Matthew Byatt, Head of Sales and Marketing for Newhall.
“Its fantastic that the Woolcotts moved within Newhall; a trend we see quite regularly. Once people have lived at Newhall they like to stay for all the reasons Julie has stated – the future is exciting and interesting as the neighbourhood and community grows and as Newhall becomes recognised as a good place to live and grow.
“All sectors are designed by award winning architects, and Newhall as a whole is unique, offering innovative modern architecture, and a relaxed green lifestyle in a real community. Amenities such as schools, shops and a restaurant are in the pipeline, and will help to establish Newhall further as one of Harlow’s most desirable neighbourhoods,” he added.
