Retirement Villages Ltd – the company which is seeking permission to transform Charters Towers on Felcourt Road into a purpose-built extra care community - has been shortlisted in two categories of a national awards recognising outstanding contribution to the healthcare industry.

The company, which already has 11 age-exclusive communities in its portfolio, has beaten off stiff competition to secure places in two categories in the final of the Health Investor Awards 2010 – Residential Care Provider of the Year and its domiciliary care arm RV Care in Domiciliary Care Provider of the Year.

The winners of the awards – organised by HealthInvestor magazine – will be unveiled at a black tie dinner at the Hilton Park Lane, London, in May.

“Being shortlisted for two such prestigious awards is an endorsement for Retirement Villages Ltd as a company which takes its’ responsibility towards the care provision for residents and the wider community seriously,” said Retirement Villages’ Chief Executive Jon Gooding.

The planning application for the extra care village at Charters Towers is currently being considered by Tandridge District Council. If given the go ahead the project will provide a 60 bed care home, 83 extra care units, communal facilities and employ around 100 care and support staff. A planning decision is hoped for in March.
