Barratt is bringing the government’s Homebuy Direct scheme to Winchester with a roadshow at its Highcroft development in Sleepers Hill.

The scheme provides eligible buyers with an equity loan of up to 30 per cent, jointly funded by Barratt and the government, making getting on the property ladder accessible for so many who think they are currently priced out of the market.

The weekend roadshow taking place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th March has been designed by the housebuilder for buyers to come along and find out if they could be eligible for a home on the scheme and get all the information they might need.

Mark Docherty, Barratt sales director, said: “We’ve only just secured homes under the HomeBuy Direct scheme at Highcroft and thought a roadshow would be the perfect way to showcase the scheme and give potential buyers all the information they need. We will have independent financial advisors available to speak to and goodie bags for all visitors to take away.

“The scheme really is perfect for people who have been priced out of the housing market for years and can take advantage of this outstanding opportunity to buy a new home.

Highcroft currently has a two bedroom apartment in the Kings Lodge building available through HomeBuy Direct. The ground floor apartment which offers parking has an asking price of £264,000 but with HomeBuy Direct, it can be purchased for just £184,800. First floor apartments are also available with the scheme.

“The initiative is open to first-time buyers, key workers and others who are currently renting. People who have previously owned a home but are now unable to do so – perhaps where relationships have broken down – can also apply,” continued Mark.

“Eligible households will have an income of up to £60,000 and would not normally be able to afford to buy a suitable property on the open market,” he added.

Buyers can redeem the loan in instalments, purchasing up to 100 per cent of the equity after their initial purchase by buying additional equity at the market rate. Alternatively, if they sell their home, the equity loan is repaid by way of a proportionate share of the sale proceeds. Buyers must have at least five per cent of the 70 per cent to use as a deposit.

Highcroft enjoys an excellent location in a leafy and sought-after area in the west of Winchester. The development lies close to wooded countryside but there are numerous amenities and leisure facilities close by, including bars, restaurants and the city’s train station.

The development is perfect for commuters, with a direct service to London Waterloo in just 58 minutes. The M3 and M27 offer excellent transport links to Basingstoke, Southampton, the New Forest and Dorset.
