Spring clean body and mind at London’s oldest spa

23rd March 2010 Print

Spring has undoubtedly sprung, bringing with her the promise that lighter, brighter days lie just around the corner. But as our thoughts turn to peeling off those chunky knits and starting the inevitable summer countdown; all too often our bodies are still singing the winter blues.

And for those of us whose systems seem more stagnant than sparkling after the lengthy winter hiatus, what better way to spring clean mind, body and spirit than to experience a session at London’s oldest spa?

The Porchester Spa has undoubtedly been one of London’s best kept secrets for over 80 years. For decades, the overworked, run down and stressed out have sought sanctuary in the gloriously restored art deco surroundings, where time stands still as the pressures of modern life simply melt away. The beauty and grandeur of the Victorian interior serve as an oasis of calm, representing a welcome alternative to the corporate clinicism often associated with modern urban day spas.

Porchester devotees often comment that this is the spa that is not a spa; to them it is much more than that – it is a place to meet, greet and eat, a breathing space or perhaps just a chance to close the door on the outside world for a couple of hours. And at just over £20 a visit, The Porchester has to be one of the most affordable spas in London too.

But for all its affordability, The Porchester still blends the right ingredients to help put a spring back in your step. Customers can make their way through the three Turkish hot rooms and two Russian steam rooms before cooling off in the ice cold plunge pool. With the sauna and Jacuzzi to enjoy as well, the peace and quiet of the relaxation room serves as a welcome ‘cool down’ zone. There is also a comprehensive treatment menu available at The Porchester – although booking in advance is highly advisable.
So this spring time, why not try something a little different and head down to The Porchester - the spa that truly does offer something for everyone, irrespective of age or affluence.

As General Manager Simon Smith comments: “The Porchester represents a really enjoyable and affordable way for customers to unwind and de- stress in our beautiful and historic surroundings. Often described as an antidote to the stresses and strains of modern living, the unique charm of London’s oldest spa is always best sampled first hand in order to understand just why we’ve been around longer than any other London spa.”
